The Government of Kiribati (GOK) through the Ministry of Information, Communications and Transport (MICT) in collaboration with the World Bank under a US$12 Million grant is in the process of implementing the Digital Government Master Plan 2021. The Kiribati Digital Government Project (KDGP) will support key focus areas outlined in Kiribati’s Digital Government Master Plan (2021), notably on Governance, Technical Infrastructure for digital government, and e-Government Applications.

This project aims to strengthen the legal, regulatory and institutional environment, enabling transition to a market-driven telecommunications sector and facilitating improved connectivity for the Outer islands.

The Project will finance construction of the EMC, a regional submarine cable system connecting Tarawa, in Kiribati with Nauru as well as Kosrae and Pohnpei (both in the FSM). The project development objective is to reduce the cost and increase the availability of Internet services in Kiribati.
